Romrec Week 6

Hey Romrec families,

WOW! It’s week 6 already. The time needs to slow down, I do not want this summer to end. This week has probably been the most exciting for our girls.

On Sunday, we had the arrival of the Grandparents for an amazing Grandparents Visiting Day. It was so nice seeing so many families come together. I was also super proud of the girls that did not have grandparents attending, as they paired up with younger campers to support them throughout the day. After lunch, once the grandparents left, it was time for Romaca Relay! The girls stepped up as leaders, running alongside a division of their choice, encouraging and cheering on the younger campers as they ran. I don’t know how they remained so energetic. I ran alongside them for the duration of the relay and was dying by the end of it !! At the end, the girls came together to light their fire and burn their rope, encouraging each other throughout. When the rope eventually burned, we ran into the lake, singing and dancing. We ended the busy day with a few Olympic Fake Outs and a Campfire.

Monday was a day of scheduled activities, and the anticipation of Break Out was looming. It was a relaxing day, and the girls also got to take their Banquet portraits.Tuesday continued with scheduled activities, and the girls participated with great spirit and enthusiasm. For evening activity on Tuesday, the girls partook in a flag football game against the OOBs. That was until the announcement we were all waiting for came. ‘Can all campers please make their way to the basketball courts’. The girls screamed with excitement and ran down the hill. I am so grateful that I got to be part of this moment, alongside my counselors, carrying torches and leading the kids to gymnastics. Break Out was exciting, with sirens wailing and children screaming, using flashlights, the flags were revealed. The girls placed themselves in their circles to prepare for crowning. I am so proud of each and every one of them for their sportsmanship and encouragement and getting the opportunity to crown is something I will never forget.

Wednesday morning arrived, and Jess, Tess, Delilah and Selma headed off, ready to lead their teams. The other 14 girls were also incredible in their leadership and helping the younger campers through these activities. Day 1 consisted of climbing wall, fitness, flag football, PAWs and the track meet. The girls worked tirelessly to partake in these activities as well as writing and teaching songs and skits. They truly are amazing !

Thursday was Day 2 and it was time for tennis, pickleball, gymnastics and the swim meet. Some of the girls worked hard in HQ typing up their skits to prepare for evening activity. Skits are always my favorite during Olympics. The girls are so creative and they are always HILARIOUS !! They were beginning to get tired of the late nights, but they kept going and never gave up. They never fail to make me proud !

Friday arrived upon us. The final day of Olympics. The day we have all been waiting for. Once again, Romrec led their teams to their activities, Landsports, Small Crafts and for evening activity, Sing. Seeing the whole camp come together to perform songs that they wrote and learned in 3 days is truly impressive. It was a busy few days but they never fail to amaze me with their skills and talents.

As we approach the final week of camp, it is a bittersweet feeling. We have so much to look forward to, including Subsway, Secret Show, Counselor Show and Banquet. Watching these girls grow over the last two years has been incredible, and I am getting emotional writing this right now. I want to thank you all for your ongoing support and want to express my gratitude to you all. This will be my last post as by next week, you will have your girls at home with you.

Romrec 2025, it has been a pleasure.

Signing out,
