Hi Inters families,
It’s Olympics o’clock here in Hinsdale, Mass!
On Tuesday night, we had a fun Evening Activity writing commercials for various objects (crocs, Owalas, you know the drill) with our Clubhouse camp sisters…until an announcement calling all campers to basketball rang out over the loudspeaker! From basketball to gymnastics, we walked (following the Romrec counselors holding torches, naturally), until we saw the entire Romaca staff lining the Gymnastics Pavilion in black hoodies. Once the Romrec counselors dramatically blew out their torches, the rest of the staff revealed red, white, blue, and green shirts underneath their black hoodies, and illuminated their faces with flashlights…right as the lights in the entire pavilion were killed! Suddenly, sirens rang, Olympics colored spotlights circled the pavilion ceiling, and a life sized Olympics flag dropped down from the back side of the Gymnastics Pavilion roof. Olympics 2025 had finally begun!
As Inters, the girls participated in various activities for their Olympic teams - 50-60 yard dashes, sack races, shuttle relays, and more during the Track Meet on Day 1, a round robin gaga tournament followed by freestyle and inner tube relays at the Swim Meet on Day 2, and a kickball tournament followed by various Small Crafts relay races at the Waterfront during Day 3. Their most impressive feat, though, was managing to learn and memorize three songs written by the older girls on their team over the course of the three day Olympic games. As members of a generation that are too often only entertained by instant gratification and screens, seeing the attention span our girls had throughout Olympics was truly amazing.
Now that Olympics have come to an end, we’re looking forward to Secret Show on Sunday - a play put on by the Romrec girls that includes an opening song and dance featuring the Clubhouse and Annex girls. Even though I know the Inters have been looking forward to this performance for the past 7 weeks, I also know they’ll have empty hearts when it’s over, as Secret Show is an event that often signifies the end of a Romacan summer. If I’m so sad to know that our summer is quickly coming to an end, I know they are too. I wish they could all stay at camp forever!!
XOXO,
Schmaier
