Hello Romrec families!
This was an exciting week for our girls as we went on the annual Romrec trip to Cape Cod. The trip began with an early morning wake up on Sunday, and we set off for Plimoth Patuxet Museum. Here, we got to learn about what life was like for Pilgrims in the 1600’s and the girls even practiced their DJ Jeff Dance for the pilgrims, much to their confusion! We then headed to the town of Hyannis, where we checked into our hotel and went to Target for some much needed shopping. Later that night, we went to a bowling alley for some games and dinner before heaving a somewhat early night.
Monday morning we went to Dunkin for breakfast. The guys in the shop took a picture with the receipt because it was ‘the biggest one we have ever seen’. We then made our way to the ferry for our day trip to Nantucket. The sun was shining and the girls loved having the opportunity to explore and shop for a number of hours. On returning to Hyannis, we went to a tavern for dinner, with one of the girls even trying lobster !! Once again, we went back to the hotel for an early night.
On Tuesday, we went to Starbucks for breakfast and then spent 2 hours on a private boat around the bay. We played some music, sang some songs and relaxed, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We then got the opportunity to do some more shopping and get some lunch around the town of Hyannis. On returning to the hotel, some girls took the opportunity to go to the nearby mall, whilst others (myself included) relaxed at the pool. We then got ready to go out for dinner which was followed by ice cream.
Tuesday night into Wednesday morning was a memorable one, with the hotel fire alarm going off at both 1am and 5am, resulting in us sitting outside the hotel (most of us without shoes). Wednesday morning, with some tired heads, we checked out of the hotel and went to Dunkin for breakfast once again. We also collected our preordered lunches from Panera and headed to the beach. Here, we swam, tanned and even danced. At 1:30 pm it was time to head back to camp, where upon their return, they were greeted by the OOBs prank and embarked on a treasure hunt to try and earn back their bed slates ! All in all, it was a successful trip.
Thursday was another busy day, as the girls got up early to attend the Romrec Cheer competition, and of course they smashed it, bringing home the first place trophy! Thursday evening, it was time for one of their favorite activities, DJ Jeff. After the boys left, the girls performed their dance for the whole camp and I was so proud of how well they all did. They are amazing.
There was no time for rest going into Friday, as the girls had to get up early to prepare for the Romrec Volleyball invite. Despite the busy schedule the girls have had, they always give 100% and are such amazing role models for the younger campers. I can’t wait to see you all on Sunday !
Until next time,
Caoimhe.
