Hello Romrec families!!
With week 2 done and dusted, I can’t wait to catch you up on all of the fun events that took place. Saturday was everyone’s favorite activity, Lip Sync. I was so impressed with how great the routines were, with the very little time the girls had to create them. One of our Romrec groups were also crowned the winners which created lots of excitement for the whole camp. Sunday was a day filled with many activities and some of our girls attended a soccer tournament. The day finished with Romrec leading Campfire with lots of spirit.
Monday was the day we set out for our hardest activity yet, the Ronmrec hike. We left on Monday morning to embark on our four hour drive to New Hampshire, with a pitstop at Chipotle of course. We arrived at our campsite at around 4pm, and I was so impressed with the teamwork shown by the girls as they put together their tents. We had a night of smores, pasta and a dance party. We all then had an early night as we got prepared for a 6am wake up.
Unfortunately, we were woken up at 5am to the sound of torrential rain, and began our packing and preparing for the day. We began our hike at 7:47am, and it was the most challenging but rewarding thing I have ever done. The girls hiked with such enthusiasm and energy and I am so proud of each and every one of them. My body still hurts though !! We departed our camp site at around 6:30pm and of course we made a stop for pizza on the way home. The girls and I returned to camp at around 11:30pm, where we had a quick shower and jumped straight into bed.
There was no time for a rest day on Wednesday however as it was time for the Romaca swim meet. Our girls were absolutely incredible, not only in their races but also in their enthusiastic support for the younger campers. It was heartwarming to see the Romrec girls cheering on every swimmer, no matter their age, creating an amazing atmosphere of camaraderie and encouragement. They really showed what Romrec spirit is all about! The lake water was good for their bodies also ! The girls got to have a lazy afternoon after the swim meet before departing for a social at Greylock. The day was completed with pizza and Jess’s birthday movie in the Rec Hall.
Thursday was a more relaxed day at camp with normal activities resuming. The girls took time to begin learning both their DJ Jeff dance and their Romrec Cheer Routine. These are two important events that are taking place next week. The night finished with Twin Night, where the girls got to dress up with their younger camp sisters and take part in a fashion show for the whole camp. It is such a sweet event and I love seeing the younger campers looking up to the Romrec girls.
That is all for this week, with Friday also consisting of a regular schedule. On Sunday we depart for Cape Cod and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
Until next week,
Caoimhe !
