Juniors Week 3

Hello Juniors Families,

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through our summer together! Time is flying by, and the juniors have packed this week with smiles, laughter, and so many special moments. Each day seems to bring a new adventure, achievement or memory made for your girls. We’ve loved watching their confidence blossom and their friendships grow.

One of the highlights of the week was International Day - a fun and vibrant celebration of the incredible cultures that make up our camp family. Our counselors transformed Romaca into a global festival, with fun and colorful stalls representing their home countries. The juniors had an absolute blast traveling “around the world,” learning interesting facts, playing traditional games and sampling little treats from faraway places. It was so special to watch them connect with counselors’ stories and experience a taste of life from their parts of the globe. My favorite part was sharing an Australian classic, ‘fairy bread’, with the campers - a humble bread, butter and sprinkles recipe that is wrapped in nostalgia for me. The reviews were hilariously mixed from the juniors.

Speaking of fun and vibrant, the week wouldn’t be complete without the excitement of DJ Jeff! The night was filled with high energy, singing, dancing, t-shirt decorating, and autographs. The juniors danced their hearts out and certainly slept well afterwards - the announcement of a late wake up the morning after caused a celebration almost as big as DJ Jeff itself! Our Romrec campers performed their much anticipated dance routine with the juniors watching on in awe, cheering on their role models from the front row. We took some special moments to look around the Rec Hall walls and dream of the day when their names will be added among the generations of Romrec campers.

Possibly my most favorite thing this week has been seeing how connected the juniors feel within the wider camp community. From waves and shouts from the older campers who now know your girls by name, to run-and-jump hugs from new friends, and secret handshakes with the staff as they pass by, there’s a sense of belonging that shines through every day. The girls have been making new friends all over camp, enjoying activities together and creating friendships that stretch beyond their own division.

As we continue through our summer together, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate some of the traditions that have been bringing so much joy to our juniors - warm moments like phone calls home and sibling visits with their Greylock and Winadu brothers. The girls have been so excited to see familiar faces and share their stories and excitement from camp so far! It’s something so special to witness the connections you all share and to have your girls relay to us their most treasured stories and moments from home.

To bring it all together this weekend and have you all join us at camp is going to be the most amazing day of all. Having experienced Parents Visiting Day last year, I am so ready for the magic that is to come. I’ve never quite experienced anything so overflowing with joy! Again, the heart explosions for me are never ending here. I can’t wait for you to see the growth and zest your girls have been exuding, and for you to reconnect after what I’m sure feels like an eternity. We have some very eager juniors ready to wrap you in love and hugs.

See you so soon!

Warmest,

Amber xo
