Juniors Week 1

Hi families of our wonderful Juniors,

What a special first week we’ve had here at Camp Romaca. It’s hard to believe we’ve only just begun! Your girls have already brought so much joy, warmth, and light to our summer.

From the moment they arrived, the bunk doors flew open and friendships started blooming. I’ve loved seeing new connections forming in the smallest, sweetest ways - a shared handshake, matching headbands, late night giggles, and impromptu dance parties in the bunk. We’ve heard “we’re besties” more times than I can count.

We kicked off the week with Wish Night, our very first campfire of the summer. Dressed head to toe in red spirit wear, the Juniors joined the entire camp around the fire under the stars. We learned new songs, sang some favourites, and each girl made a quiet wish for the summer ahead before lighting a candle. The night was full of that camp magic that’s hard to put into words. Just one of the many sweet moments from this week - one of our girls quietly asked if she could share her wish with me. She wasn’t at all concerned about the wish not coming true if she shared it with me. ”It’s ok, it has already come true anyway. I wished to make lots of new friends”. Cue my heart explosion.

Even the rainy days brought joy. Our indoor bunk parties were some of the week’s biggest hits, filled with candy picnics, karaoke, invented games, talent shows, and laughter that didn’t stop. The girls have made the most of every moment together.

Another sweet Juniors moment entailed one of our girls making a ‘Snuggle Schedule’ for her bunk friends to share her stuffie if they feel like they need an extra snuggle. We’ve also had a Stuffie Mom’s Clubs created, with stuffie’s having sleepovers at other bunks with their stuffie friends. There have been so many wholesome moments this week - ones that I hope the girls will cherish forever.

Get to Know Your Counselor night gave the campers some laughs as their counselors took to the stage with their best skits, dancing and singing. The highlight for me - their pride as they sang chants to cheer their counselors on. “She’s got spirit, she’s the bomb, that’s because she is our Mom”. Cue yet another heart explosion from me.

Then it was the camper’s turn, at Get to Know Your Camper. The girls were absolute stars, standing confidently on stage letting the whole camp know who they are, before breaking out into heartwarming performances. The crowd went wild and showered them with cheers and love.

And of course, our girls joined in on our all camp Predator game - running through camp, collecting bracelets at safe stations, and dodging tags from their rival teams in camo. They had an absolute blast being led by their Romrec-er and attempting to make it to all stations before being caught.

Mid-week brought Picture Day, and our girls looked absolutely adorable in their greens and whites. There were so many giggles behind the scenes as they fixed each other’s hair, adjusted poses, and made sure everyone felt their best before stepping in front of the camera. Their biggest smiles were on show, hyping the rest of the divisions up before their turn. I can’t wait for you to see the shots!

Every day, your daughters are showing us how brave, kind, and full of love they are, not just by trying new things, but in how they lift one another up, include new friends, and laugh deeply and often. They are such an important part of what makes Romaca feel like home.

Thank you for sharing them with us. I feel truly lucky to be spending the summer with your girls!

Here’s to a summer full of silly moments, brave adventures, and friendships that last long after the suitcases are unpacked.

Warmest, Amber xo
