Juniors Week 4

Hello Junior Families!

How exciting to start off this week’s blog talking about Visiting Day! It was so amazing to meet you all and see you spend the day together! We’re so grateful the weather pulled through and allowed us to have the most amazing visiting day all together! After many tears, and everyone had said goodbye, the camp hosted a dance party in gymnastics to get the positivity flowing! We finished up our day with the traditional campfire, once again in the Rec Hall, singing all the Romrec classics before they announced the song they would be adding to the songster, singing the Alma Mater and Friends and Pals to end the night.

Monday brought a normal day of activities, with the Juniors participating in activities such as High Ropes & Nature, Small Crafts and Volleyball! Additionally, we began our Juniors auditions for our play. The girls were given the opportunity to show off their singing and line reading skills, which was wonderful to see how some of the skills have developed in the short time they’ve been with us! We finished up our Monday with Cliff Broder. Cliff came and played his country tunes, teaching the girls how to promenade, dosey doe and do classic dances such as Cotton Eyed Joe, The Hoe Down and Throw Down! We dressed in our best country and cowboy outfits for the occasion! Tuesday brought a sunny morning and rainy afternoon. We managed to fit in some soccer and swimming in the morning, before the rain hit, then moved into ‘Trashion Show’ for the afternoon! With trash bags in hand, the Juniors created their outfits in bunks, such as dresses, two pieces and pant suits. The whole camp met up at gymnastics to strut their stuff and show off their outfits. Who knew such fun could come from a trash bag!

Wednesday was Trip Day! The Juniors and Inters packed their lunches and candy (mainly candy if I’m honest!) and headed out to Holyoke to the Children’s Museum. Here they were greeted by an entirely interactive space, filled with areas for them to explore and discover new information about everyday objects. To keep the space interesting for our campers who had visited the space before, we created a passport to stamp off each area once completed, a word search based off of each area, a relay race across their ‘curvy climber’ area (a netted area with a wobbly floor) and much more! It was a big hit with campers and staff alike! Once we had finished, the girls had the opportunity to look through the gift shop, before heading back to Hinsdale for ice cream at Topsy’s! All that excitement left us very tired, so we finished up any remaining activities that weren’t completed at the museum for evening activity, to see how much they had remembered from the day.

Thursday and Friday brought us some normal activities such as PAWS, Tennis and Waterskiing, as well as a double whammy for evening activities. The girls adored Lip Sync battle at the beginning of the summer and had begged to do a Juniors version. We gave them an evening activity on Thursday to pick their songs and practice, and we performed them on Friday, after 20 mins of practice time!

With another week down, we look back at how fast the time has gone, knowing to savor every minute together. We look forward to another amazing week together!

Love, AJ
