Debs, Week 5

Hi Debs Families,

Wow!!! What an incredible week…The Debs had two great accomplishments this week…
The Debs show performance of “Newsies” was incredible. Your girls are so talented , it is hard to believe they only had a week to practice. They all did an amazing job singing, dancing, projecting their voices and memorizing all of their lines. I was truly impressed with how well they worked together and helped each other, all while having so much fun!

The Debs are also in their final stages of setting up the Deb Carnival! I’m sure you are wondering what the secret theme is. I can FINALLY reveal that the theme is…DISNEY DEBS!! The girls have been meeting and planning the event throughout the summer, and this last week they spent time in Creative Arts every day making those plans come to life. The girls are getting ready to wake up the entire camp in the morning by banging pots and pans-an old tradition that goes way back (maybe even before my time ;-). Then they will sing the traditional Deb Carnival song through the dining hall in the morning while they do the bunny hop. After the song, the theme DISNEY will finally be revealed to the rest of the camp. The girls will spend the morning setting up, and then, in the afternoon, all of Camp Romaca and the boys their age from Camp Greylock will come and enjoy the carnival. The girls will take turns running stations, eating fun food and playing games. I am confident the event will be incredible and I am very proud of what they have accomplished. They will look so cute in their homemade Minnie Mouse T shirts and Minnie Mouse headbands.

In addition to the Deb Show and Deb Carnival, some other really fun things happened; The Debs went to Camp Greylock to watch the Romrec girls and Greylock boys in their production of “Bye Bye Birdie”(The “telephone hour song is always so cute!). Thursday night, the Senior A’s invited the entire camp to “Birthday Night” where the whole camp broke into seasons and celebrate everybody’s birthday. Their secret theme was Beauty and the Beast-obviously a perfect choice since the remake of the movie came out this spring. It was so well done and really set the stage for our big day today!

This was a great week for the Debs to make memories and I am so incredibly happy to be leading them this summer. Your girls were the center of attention over the past 2 weeks and they are loving every minute of it.

Have a great week!!!

Debbie Hansel
