Our LeadershipAge Groups

Jeff Saltz
Jeff has proudly owned and directed Camp Romaca since 1995. At the young age of 5, he persuaded his parents to allow him to attend Camp Greylock; our brother camp in nearby Becket. Jeff spent the next 20 years growing up in this traditional camp environment. It was there he gained a profound respect for the impact that a well organized sleep away experience can have on children. After gaining many years of organizational and leadership experience on staff at Greylock, Jeff brought his love of camp, along with a keen sense of perseverance, dedication and expertise to Romaca.

Although born in New Jersey, Jeff's fondness for Massachusetts brought him to attend Northeastern University in Boston. He graduated from the Paramedic Program in 1988 and after years of experience, went on to work as a senior Paramedic in Jersey City, New Jersey. During his career there, he earned honors as “Paramedic of the Year” and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the mayor of the city. He later received another Distinguished Service commendation from the Jersey City Fire Department. Adding to his professional emergency training, Jeff also attended the Massachusetts Police Academy in Agawam.

In the off-season, Jeff resides in the Sarasota, Florida region with his wife Kimberly and their two daughters. In his free time, he enjoys snow skiing, hiking, bike riding, swimming and watching movies with his girls - who just happen to share his passion for Romaca!

Daniel Atkins
Originally from England, Daniel learned about Romaca from his high school teacher who had worked here as a counselor during the 70's. Daniel joined the Romaca staff in 1993 and has been part of the staff ever since; returning each summer before he accepted a year-round position and moved to the United States. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from Exeter University in 1997 and was a High School teacher prior to moving to America in 2000. Daniel was previously the Athletic Director from 1995-2000, Assistant Director from 2000-2004 before accepting a role as Co-Director.

Romaca has a very special place in Daniel's heart. Having met his wife Meghan here in 1999, they were married at camp in 2008 and are looking forward to raising a family in the near future. Daniel believes that Romaca's strong sense of family, Friendship and tradition are what makes the camp so special. Watching as the girls grow both individually and with each other while developing bonds that will last a lifetime is one of the most rewarding parts of his job. Every year Daniel looks forward to seeing everyone gathered around the first campfire, singing songs together and welcoming in the start of a new summer.

Advisory Staff
Romaca is proud to have a loyal group of highly skilled adults that function as role models and leaders for our regular bunk and activity counselors. These Group and Department Heads are chosen for their expertise in a specific area and provide daily guidance for the general teaching staff. Many of these fine staffers are professionals, educators and parents who are strongly committed in providing the highest quality program at Romaca. Parents will enjoy regular communication with these Advisory Staff members throughout the summer.
